Space-efficient work spaces are becoming all the rage these days. They’re great for maintaining privacy and uninterrupted workflow, and they can also be cozy and stylish as well. I love working from home, I use a spare bedroom as my office but sometimes I wish I had a detached office space—a place I could shut everything out. Well, the shed quarters might be just what I’m looking for!
What Exactly is a Shedquarters?
A shed quarters is really just another name for a tiny house. Like the man cave and she shed the shed quarters might be a getaway, an office, an art studio, a library, or just a full-on extra home. Like the tiny house these miniature studio spaces and living structures are small enough to fit in someone’s back yard.
Modern, Country Cottage or Bungalow
Just like the tiny house the shed quarters can take on many forms. It can be ultra-modern, a cozy country cottage, a quaint bungalow, or even a sleek space-age resembling high-rise topper. Many of the homes or quarters, whatever you want to call them, come in kits and start in the $6,000 range for an 8 x 8 foot structure.
Tiny, Portable and Eco-Friendly
Kanga Room Systems Based out of Austin, Texas, Kanga Room has backyard studios in three styles: modern, country cottage, and bungalow. The kit buildings are tiny, portable and eco-friendly. The basic package is an 8×8-foot shed that starts around $5,900 and you can add on a bathroom, kitchenette, and front porch for additional cost. These little houses get the name shed quarters for the roof style; a single sloping plane without gables, ridges or valleys.
Forts for Grown Ups
These shed quarters might also be considered a fort for the grown up. Modern shed has a line that looks just like that, pretty boxy styles.
Modern Shed is based out of Seattle and offers a flat-packed prefab structure. An 8 x 10 foot shed starts at $6900. The extensive deck on this one will be extra.
This one may just be my favorite. The shed roof creates a vaulted ceiling and there are lots of windows—two important factors in a small space to make it feel spacious.
A Shed on a High-Rise?
Shequarters on a skyscraper? This one is 400 square feet in size and includes a kitchen and bathroom. How you get permission to put a shedquarters on top of a high-rise, or even get electric and plumbing to it, is anyone’s guess. It sounds like a fun idea for the city dweller though.
My Ideal Quarters
So many options, so much fun. I could absolutely picture this one as my “outside of the home office”—perched next to our fishing pond.
I’ve had fun looking at tiny houses the last few days, and all their variant names—man cave, she cave, shed quarters, show shed. It’s peeked my interest to look inside those sheds I see sitting on properties for sale—who knows what’s inside!!
