How many times have you heard it?  “Mom, I’m bored, there’s nothing to do”.  Wrong, there are a ton of things to do in Door County this weekend for kids and adults, and the best part is some of the best are absolutely free!

To do for the kids in Door County this weekend

The Kress Pavillion at the Egg Harbor Library always has fun activities.

On Saturday kids 10 and under can participate in Little Learners Tech  Kids will be provided with safe games and activities for budding techies.  The event includes “code-a-pillar.  Stop in at your convenience, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Game Day for All Ages will run at the library/pavillion from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The Egg Harbor Library has a fantastic stash of board games, so raid theirs or bring your own to share with someone.  Free snacks too!

Lots to do in Baileys Harbor for kids and adults when Baileys Harbor hosts Harbor Holiday all day on Saturday.  A holiday fair at the town hall from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., arts and crafts at the library from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Fun, plus cookies and hot chocolate.  Make a wreath at the Ridges Sanctuary from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ($20 charge), and free holiday cookie decorating at Knit Whit’s Yarn & Craft (to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Door County).  5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. an arts & crafts fair in the town hall.  A parade at 5:00 p.m., complete with Santa, caroling, and a tree lighting at 6:00 p.m.  Plus all the great shopping and dining options in Baileys Harbor!

 

 

 

 

To do for the adults in Door County this weekend

Live music, sample local wines, and get some special holiday discounts at the new Parallel 44 Winery at 5464 County P, just north of Sturgeon Bay.

The Peninsula School of Art will host an opening reception from 4::00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the exhibition For ‘The Animal:  A Relationship Re-examined”.  View the art, meet the artists, and enjoy the informational gallery talk.  The Peninsula Art School is located at 3900 County F in Fish Creek.

If it’s dinner and some music, just drinks and some music, or just music you are in search of check out:

Friday night at Root Bistro & Wine Bar at 23 N 3rd Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.  The music and atmosphere are free.

Stone Harbor Resort & Pub, on Sturgeon Bay’s waterfront at 107 N 1st Avenue.  Dining room and bar.  Friday night.

The Velveetatones, a blues-like group, will play at Waterfront Mary’s Bar & Grill on Saturday.

 

Holiday Themed Activities

A Stable Situation, the fun and humorous tale of the animals in the stable discussing the birth of baby Jesus will be performed at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m.  20 children, adults and teens from Door County perform, and the audience will be invited to sing-along to well-known carols.  The church is located at 1756 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay.  All are welcome and admission is free.  If you can, bring along a dry or canned food item for donation to the Lakeshore CAP of Door County food pantry.

Ephraim’s Christmas in the Village on Saturday will feature crafts for the family, sing-alongs, wreath making, horse-drawn carriage rides, open houses at the Ephraim businesses, and a traditional tree lighting.  Check out the website for a full schedule of events.

One last thing not to miss if you find yourself in Sister Bay at night is the holiday light display at Waterfront Park.  Spectacular!

If none of those peak your interest there are the fabulous shops with just about anything you could want.  Among those are magical holiday shops that you can read about here.  Sometimes you’ll find shops that have nothing you need, but everything you want.  How about a store that has everything you need–truly–from house paint and craft paint to blue jeans, cleaning supplies to dog food, socks to snowblowers, hammers to light bulbs–you get the picture right?  Nelsons Shopping Center in Fish Creek is just one of those stores.  Check them out next time your heading north out of Fish Creek at 3349 Highway 42.  Or like their Facebook page and get notifications on what’s new.
