About Jacksonport, Door County
A little known fact about Jacksonport is that it is half-way to the North Pole. Yes, Santa takes a break in Jacksonport every Christmas Eve because when he hits Jacksonport he’s half through his work for the evening!
Jacksonport comprises 58.3 square miles, of which, 29.0 square miles of it is land and 29.3 square miles. The town runs along the Lake Michigan shore and portions of Door County’s inland lakes, Clark Lake and Kangaroo Lake are in the town of Jacksonport.
Jacksonport’s population is about 750 residents, with many people who grew up in Jacksonport moving their families back here because of the outstanding quality of life. There are a large number of people who maintain second homes in Jacksonport and who return for long weekends or the summer season.
Jacksonport has a rich history in the settling of Door County with lumbering and commercial fishing being early trades. Read more on Jacksonport’s history later in this post.

Living In Jacksonport
What’s your dream? Is it a home on the sandy shore, a home on the cliff looking out over the lake, a home on a small inland lake, a home in the woods or meadow, maybe some hunting or recreational land? Any of these are possible in Jacksonport.
The town’s core is a mixture of spectacular lake homes, quaint cottages, and homes off the water, along with a market, coffee shop, bakery, a couple of restaurants, a gift shop, a place to rent kayaks and bikes, a motel and homes to rent year ’round or for your Door County vacation. Also in town you’ll find Lakeside Park, with 300 feet of sandy Lake Michigan shore, and a nice park where you can picnic or the kids and dog can play.
Lots of people along the core, on Lakeshore Road and Cave Point, drive walk or bike into town to enjoy the amenities.
Inland there are small homesites and homes on large parcels of land, an of every style you can imagine. Dairy farms, cropland, and abundant woods offer many attractive settings for your Jacksonport home.
Also inland you’ll find a tavern, a couple of art studios, and in-season wonderful roadside produce stands.
The town maintains an experienced fire department and first responder unit. Ask anyone who lives here and they’ll tell you the people manning these departments are well trained, professional, and keep us safe.
You’ll also find churches of the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran, Catholic, Methodist and Episcopal denominations in the town.
Jacksonport is served by the Sevastopol School District., a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School, and with a reputation throughout the state for excellence in education. The Zion Lutheran school, grades 4K-8, also resides in Jacksonport. The Zion Lutheran Early Childhood Center (accepting children of any denomination) serves families with infants through 4K all year, and older children in the summer.

Public and Emergency Services in Jacksonport
For well over 20 years Jacksonport has maintained a well trained and efficient volunteer fire department and first responder unit.
The commitment by these members for constant training and professionalism is so greatly appreciated, and really a source of price in Jacksonport. The men and women of the medical first-responder’s unit provide first-response medicate aid at a moment’s notice. The firefighters fight fires large and small, clear storm-fallen trees, and are always on hand with hep at town celebrations. When the Jacksonport first-responders and firefighters respond to a call for help they are assisting someone they know–a friend, family members, or neighbors.
The firefighter and first-responder units maintain a nice fleet of vehicles and equipment, all expertly maintained and updated as needed.
Because so much of the town is bordered by water the town invested in a Sealegs amphibious rescue boat. The boat is called out frequently to assist boaters and kayakers on Lake Michigan, the inland lakes or the Bay of Green Bay.
